Artist Statement:

This piece came to me during a meditative sketching session.I closed my eyes and asked for the image I should paint next. After sketching the piece out I went on a research journey to find the symbolic elements I had drawn. I knew the woman pouring water from a vessel was recognizable, but I couldn't pin point from where. I soon discovered that she is associated with the aquarius zodiac sign, which happens to be my own sign. She is known as the water bearer. However, as I furthered my research, I learned something that felt profound. It was not actually water that she was pouring out of her vessel, it was wisdom.

Wisdom is one of the first names associated with the Divine Feminine that I was introduced to. The moon was also one of the first symbols I learned of that represented the Divine Feminine. So the culmination of this image of the water bearer, sitting on the moon and pouring out her wisdom over the earth reflecting my own zodiac sign felt affirming of my personal feminine divinity. My hope is for every woman to feel the testament for herself that she was created with Divine in mind.

Artist Bio:

Natalie is an artist and a poet who likes to use her artwork to explore how we can expand God beyond the bounds of religious law, to existing within all people. She focuses on depictions that urge the viewer to see God within communities where God has historically been kept, like the BIPOC community, the Queer community and amongst women. Natalie received her BA in International Cultural Studies and Peacebuilding from BYU-Hawaii. Peacebuilding work is her passion and she utilizes her education as the driving force behind the themes and inspiration in her work. She descends from a long lineage of Greek Orthodox Syrians on her father's side and Latter-day Saint Europeans on her mother's side. She finds these two traditions fascinating and loves to dive into the history of her ancestors. You can find symbols and stories exploring her lineage throughout her artwork.
