About the artist: I live and work in coastal Rhode Island with my husband and three children. It is a wonderful place to be an artist! My process begins with observation. I love to work from life, painting en plein air when I can. These gestural and impulsive field studies will often stand as finished paintings, but I also build on them to create studio pieces later. I rely greatly on memory and impression to create a painting that conveys the essence of a place. Working in this way is often helpful in simplifying shapes and unifying colors, as I am not inhibited by what I see in front of me. Even still, I feel that working from life, whether painting or sketching, has been my greatest teacher. The landscape has a story to tell, whether about the people who have experienced it before or the utter beauty of nature itself. I'm honored to be one of her storytellers.
