Artist Statement: “Approaching the Infinite” attempts to visualize the math of the Infinite. When working with the infinite in both theology and math, strange things happen, but those things tend to also be elegant solutions to complex problems. I managed to include eleven generations of a fractal in this art piece–the last generation is so small you can’t see it with your naked eye, but you can feel the ridges of it with your finger.

Artist Biography: I’m Karl Hale, an artist and engineer.

My sculptures bring together intuitive, right-brained art and logical, left-brained science. I hope that people who identify with either end of that spectrum find inspiration when they view my creations.

As an engineer-turned-artist, I am passionate about creating art that is accessible and engaging for all walks of life.

Due to my background in engineering, much of my art is based on mathematical concepts. I frequently use geometric patterns such as circle packing and tessellations to create interactive works filled with movement and familiar shapes that speak to younger (and less young) audiences.
