Artist Statement: Odesa is an amazing city with a great past, which certainly leaves a mark on every visitor. To live in this city, to know that it is native, means to strive to capture it forever. You walk among the architecture of the old part of Odesa and you know that each building here can provide material for a whole book. The building on this piece was erected in 1912 and since then it has served as a haven for two bookstores, a place where men's hats, fabrics and medicinal potions were sold. The editorial office of the newspaper "Nemetskoye Obozrenie" and the typolithography "Clemens" worked there. And in 2022, it almost burned down, but was saved.

Artist Bio: Olena Burlaka is a Ukrainian fiber artist who started doing embroidery in 2018. She graduated from the Odessa National University and received a master's degree in sociology, but devotes most of her time to art. She makes embroidered pictures of fabric, cotton floss, sometimes acrylic thread and wool yarn. Earlier her main focus was on the reflection of the visual image of a picture and in the dialogue of the representation of the image and its recognition. Now on the stage of her work, she creates embroideries that are not only visually good, but also show a sense of subtext in itself. It is important for her that the piece isn't just shown in the interior, bur reflects the upholding of its value. She also starts to add crocheting into her work. This is a rich field for experiments and knowledge.
