Artist Biography: Emily (Dyches) Pugmire, born in St. Louis, MO, 1979

Studied at the Florence Academy of Art, 2007
I have been trained in classical artistic traditions and have spent a great deal of effort studying past masters, working as a professional, and teaching art.
I currently have less time for artistic pursuits than I would like. When I get a chance to paint, I have found I am more drawn to playfulness with loose brushstrokes while still making an effort to maintain balance of proportion, color, and design. I realize that the reasons we create art are myriad, but at this point in my life, I do it just for the simple of joy of creation. There is freedom in this and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have created something for this show in that frame of mind.
