Artist Biography: Yolizma Lara is a painter exploring identity and culture mainly through self portraiture. These paintings are a continuation of a body of work that began as a result of the pandemic. As she poured over old family photographs, she reflected on how each memory in the photographs eventually gather to depict a lifetime. For many looking back on old photographs of childhood and family memories, there is often a longing for a simpler time when we lived in the moment. These paintings reflecting on those simpler times, help to remind her to do so today.
