Artist Statement: I have loved learning about the centuries-old tradition of delftware. Using the majolica technique of painting onto a tin-glazed surface, I created these small tiles in the familiar cobalt blue and white that became synonymous with Dutch delftware.
Historically, Delft tiles often depicted scenes of fishing, animals, landscapes, and everyday country life. For this collection, I wanted to honor that tradition with a playful, modern twist. Each tile is painted by hand, embracing the small variations and imperfections that give historic delftware its charm.
I hope you enjoy these little pieces of an old tradition, reimagined for today, as much as I enjoyed making them.
