Price: $220
Dimensions: 6 x 9 inches
Artist Statement: Perilla is a member of the mint family and is popular in various Asian Cuisines. Purple Perilla is more commonly known as the beefsteak plant, or by its Japanese name, Shiso. This particular strain of perilla is recognizable by its bright reddish purple color on one side, and a deep green on the other. At first, perilla leaves grow bright green with a reddish-purple underside, and as they mature, the purple coloration spreads throughout the plant. This nutty, minty, anise-flavored plant is enjoyable in pickled dishes, salads, or my personal favorite, fresh spring rolls.
