Artist: Berkeley Kershisnik
Title: Mary Stays Behind
Medium: Acrylic paint on cradled wood panel
Unframed Dimensions: 10 x 8 inches
Framed Dimensions: 11 x 9 inches
Price: $250
Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by lyrics from a Patty Griffin song: "Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place." The Christian religion I grew up in only spoke of Mary at Christmas time, and even then, only within the context of Joseph and Jesus' stories. She deserves to be seen more than that. So, here's to brave, beautiful Mary, the mother, teacher, and example to all salvation.
Artist Bio: Based in San Antonio, TX, Berkeley finds inspiration in the rhythm and emotion of language. Often drawing inspiration from song lyrics, poetry, and the power of words to spark vivid imagery, her work transforms written expression into visual art. When not creating, Berkeley spends time at home with her four puppies, makes music with her sister and niece, and teaches Portuguese language classes.
