Artist Statement: When I was a few months pregnant my prenatal yoga teacher told my class, "Right now you are your baby's home." As my baby grew, so did his home. And so did my respect and reverence for motherhood and child-rearing. But at the same time I noticed that in our general society, these most challenging and sacred feats-- growing, birthing, and rearing children-- are often overlooked. It reminds me of how, in history, many "feminine" forms of art like quilting and sewing were considered insignificant, despite requiring great talent. This artwork represents the sacred body of a woman who nurtures. She is beautiful, warm, complex, imperfect, and sturdy.
