About the Artwork:

While driving one day, I caught a snippet of a BYU devotional talk by Elder Uchtdorf where he said, “we are gatherers of light.” This simple statement struck me as utterly profound. So much of life is dark and confusing, but if we simply strive to gather light, all the uncertainty of life fades into the background. Even if the light we see is as small as the light of a firefly, we can feel confident that we are on the right path.

About the Artist:

Samantha Long is an artist who loves patterns, bright colors, and whimsy. She grew up in Utah Valley with her left-brained accountant mother and her right-brained musician father. She therefore states that her brain is equally balanced. She started taking art lessons at the age of 10 with fine artist Monique DeWitt and continued with art through high school. Samantha then went on to study Illustration at Brigham Young University under Christopher Thornock, Robert Barrett, and Bethanne Andersen. While at BYU, Samantha took a History of Clothing course that fostered her love of period habiliments, especially from the 18th century to the Edwardian Era. She also completed an internship with artists Sherrie McGraw and David Leffel.
Samantha Long currently lives in American Fork, Utah with an empty guinea pig cage, an orderly yarn drawer sorted by color, and several underperforming plants.
