Artist Statement: Trees have long been symbolic of Heavenly Mother. Trees bless us with every life-giving breath we take. It seems natural, then, that a feminine blessing take place in a forest; the grove of the Mother. Women blessing women is at once natural and needed. Not in place of men giving blessings, but alongside—another form, another dialect, another connection to the divine communication that is sought by humankind. Dialogue articles referenced for this painting included: The Mother Tree; Understanding the Spiritual Root of our Ecological Crisis by Kathryn Knight Sonntag; Vol. 52 No. 1, and The Order of Eve: A Matriarichal Priesthood by Kyra N. Artist Bio: Emilie lives in Sandy, Utah with her husband and two sons. She loves exploring feminine themes and the natural world in her work.
