Artist Statement: In the premortal realm, we still lived in the presence of God in love. We understood the plan conceptually and while still in the presence of a heavenly society, we had every confidence that whatever trials came, God and our loved ones would be there to lift and support us. We rejoiced as God laid the foundations of the earth. *Now that we are here, the trials can seem overwhelming and help can feel a long time coming and far off…or perhaps seems like it won’t come at all. *This is perfectly illustrated in Job. At the lowest point in his life, when his property, posterity, and health have all been destroyed, his friends come to comfort him, only to add to his misery in the way they respond to his plight. Then the Lord speaks to Job, asking: Where wast thou when I alaid the bfoundations of the cearth…when the morning stars asang together, and all the bsons of God shouted for cjoy? Instead of chastising or judging Job in his harshest trials, the Lord asks Job to cast his mind to the Creation…to look at his life from an eternal perspective…to Think Celestial. The Lord knew what blessings awaited Job once the trials were over and gave him reason to look up in hope and keep moving forward to better times.

Artist Biography: Layers are a theme in my work, which begins with a layer of altered National Geographic pages and builds through coats of ink, charcoal, and acrylic paint. I discovered this technique during a college assignment and fell in love with the way mixed media interacted with paper. Mixed media allow me to explore the vibrant hues, varying textures, and organic lines found in nature. I am an avid backpacker and love to immerse myself in the beauty found in the mountains. The symbols of nature and the formal elements of art become vehicles through which I can explore spiritual concepts, whether simple or complex.
