Artist Biography: Erin Spencer (b. 1979) is a landscape oil painter living in Barrington, Rhode Island with her husband and their three children. She began painting in oils in 2007, and has been painting the landscape and the sky all around the world ever since. She is a self-taught painter, owing her education to observation and tireless practice from life. Her work offers a quiet look at the landscapes that often disappear into the background of our lives.
“My process begins with observation, pulling from all the variety in nature. I then process what I see through my own lens, working to simplify and find designs that tell the story of a suspended moment in time. Whether working en plein air or from field sketches in my home studio, I find that making a painting is like making a poem, distilling visual information into a unique interpretation that gives new perspective. I hope my paintings feel timeless and personal, like accessing a memory. I am grateful to claim painting as a lifelong pursuit, one that will grow and change as I do, and one that has no objective end.”
