Artist Bio: Erika Chapman lives and works in West Palm Beach, Florida. Her ongoing cat portrait project is named "The Sandwich Cats" for its origin as daily surprise artwork in her daughter’s lunchbox. In the years since its inception, "The Sandwich Cats" evolved into a full-scale exploration of human-feline relationships. Many of her portraits support animal rescue operations across the US and beyond. The use of transparent or translucent materials - ziplock bags, acetate and plexiglass rather than paper or canvas - is a lifelong theme (obsession) throughout her work. Her technique involves painting on both sides of the surface, building a portrait layer upon layer, mirroring the process of becoming acquainted with the subject.
