Artist Statement: Kara Aina is from New Brunswick, Canada. She is an artist, art educator and surface pattern designer based in Sandy, Utah. She graduated from BYU with a BFA and teaching certification from USU. She works primarily in watercolor and oil paint; influenced by the simple comfort that comes from taking the time to pause and find fulfillment in simple things; seeing new patterns emerge, nurturing growth and celebrating progress however small. In these things she finds a greater measure of strength and joy in areas that might have previously been taken for granted or overlooked. In addition to her studio practice and teaching she enjoys hiking, traveling, audiobooks, gardening, catching up with her family in Canada and road trips with her husband and their 4 sons.
