Artist Statement:
Imperfectly Perfect: She is not an Angel but there is a dove that seems to share the same space as she does- this imperfectly perfect person. Doves are often associated with peace. I’ve spent the last few years pondering what it means to be “perfect.” I think for so many of us, instead of striving to be our best selves we put unrealistic expectations of what we imagine we should be on ourselves. We create unattainable ideas of what we think we should be and then feel unworthy when it doesn’t happen. Feelings of failure, depression and frustration become our constant companions. I am learning to let go of so many things. I’m learning to say no. I’m learning about realistic goals. I’m learning about my limitations. I’m learning to accept what I cannot change. I’m learning to make peace with who I am and what I am actually capable of AND with the things I’m not capable of. In doing so, I’m figuring out what it actually means to be my “perfect” self. I’m making peace with being imperfectly perfect.
