Artist Statement: Some health complications hit suddenly a few days before my daughter turned two, and I couldn't lift her for over a year. She was so patient and helpful, and when I finally picked her up recently so exclaimed, "You can hold me!" At bedtime that night she ran back into my room after prayer and said, "I forgot to say 'Thank you that Mom can hold me, it took a really long time. Amen.'" Heavenly Mother is dear to my heart, and I sometimes feel like my daughter must have felt, wanting to be held, but needing to wait. I picture myself saying something similar, if I could be held again. But then again I do feel Her holding me. That feeling made me want to create this drawing, reminding me, that I am in my Mother's arms. Even when it feels like it is taking a really long time.
Artist Bio: Ashley lives with her husband and three young children in the woods of Washington State. She studied recreational therapy, loves the outdoors, is passionate about oil painting and drawing, and uses art to understand herself and enjoy the beauty of the world around her.
