About the artwork: Very few journeys follow a straight path. Most new journeys are like a good hike; winding, with some parts being steep and difficult and other parts being flat and calm. Sometimes you might encounter an unexpected obstacle, or switchbacks that make you feel like you aren’t making any progress even though you are. Sometimes you’re so focused on the end goal that you forget to pause and enjoy the moment. When I hike my favorite part usually isn’t the destination, it’s the moments along the way when I pause to take in the peace, enjoy the fresh air, and notice the little details in my surroundings. I recently started a new metaphorical winding journey of my own in my life which inspired this painting, so this painting is for everyone facing their own winding, up and down, switchback type journey. It’s a reminder that every journey is beautiful even when it’s hard, a reminder that you are making progress even when it doesn’t feel like it, and a reminder to slow down and enjoy the page you’re on to the fullest even when your goal is to finish the book.
