Artist Bio: Kate Hortin is a Pleasant Grove, Utah-based painter whose work explores themes of faith, perspective, and interpretation. Working primarily with oil paint and fabric, their practice combines processes of accumulation and removal. They build layers of color and texture, then subtract from the surface by scraping, sanding, and wiping away paint. Raised in St. George, Utah, Hortin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Utah Valley University, where they developed a practice centered on painting and drawing. Currently, Hortin is focused on exploring stories in scripture and considering them from different points of view. Through their work, they aim to create space for reflection and conversation, encouraging viewers to engage with these stories in personal and unexpected ways.
