I painted three of its landmarks the way I see them: not soft, not hyper-realistic, but rather with color and form. I love the color of red rock as the sun starts to set. Although each piece is structured differently, they all share the same darkening purple sky and burnt orange rock. These are some of my favorite places in the park and I wanted to give them the same impression of boldness I feel when standing in front of them.

Artist Bio: Kelsey Christensen is a scientist-turned-artist. Art first found her as an adult, freshly graduated from a master’s program in cognitive motor neuroscience. While touring a Wayne Thiebaud exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, something about the art’s distinct shadows, sharp lines, and bright contrasting colors spoke to her sense that beauty and order can be formed from raw, unorganized materials, a lesson she first learned in the world of academics and research. She began painting in the evenings, first a little, then a lot. She holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Brigham Young University. She lives in Cottonwood Heights with her husband and three children.
