About the artwork: One of the only Mexican women influences I had growing up was my Grandma, Petra Hernandez. She and my Mexican father highly regarded plants and flowers. To be rich is to be in nature, she’d teach me. Gardens are sacred—a place of learning, growth and connection with loved ones physically as well as spiritually.

Coralee Hernandez Zabriskie is a film and digital photographer based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Born a Chicana in the Central Valley of California, she draws inspiration from the streets her ancestors walked and the fields they worked. Beyond her rich background, she also finds great influence in international films, poetry, and editorial photography. Coralee’s work itself ranges from portrait to documentary to special events, each reflecting the many parts of herself she loves to explore—she is ever evolving.
