Artist Statement: This work is in response to the themes and many of the articles of "The Pink Issue." The Pink Issue was an effort made by Leonard Arrington in 1971 to include more female voices in Mormon intellectual thought. Those voices were largely comprised of the Boston based women's group that later began Exponent II, the Mormon feminist magazine. The Pink Issue has been a foundational text for Mormon Feminist studies and focuses on concerns around motherhood, work, creativity, and gospel dilemma's in balancing these sometimes competing interests.
Artist Bio: Megan Knobloch Geilman is a digital based artist located in Southern California and Utah. She uses staged scenes and digital collage to engage visual conversations on intersections of race, gender, and politics with historical and contemporary Mormonism. Megan is currently working on her MFA at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. She grew up in San Diego and studied art at the California College of the Arts and Brigham Young University. Along with her love of art history, she enjoys walkable downtowns, community events, a good restaurant, and enjoying each of these things with her husband and three children.
