Artist Statement:
After learning about what may have been used as tear bottles and their significance in biblical times I thought about Mary who washed Jesus feet with her tears. I wondered if besides the tears she wept at the time she washed the saviors feet, that maybe she had also brought tears that were saved in a bottle such as this. Tears that she wept when hurt, when experiencing grief, when experiencing repercussions of choices in her life.
Psalm 56:8 “Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”
I believe our tears matter to God, they have a sacred place, and they are remembered.
