Artist Statement: I read somewhere once that a blood moon (aka lunar eclipse) symbolizes a great reckoning or powerful change. It's a time of wrestling with your own inner demons in order to transform into something stronger. I feel as though this year has been a particularly difficult and strange one for me and my loved ones. I had this thought in mind as I painted this image. I have faith that emerging from this "blood moon era" can deeply heal and transform a person, even if it is deeply painful and just generally quite awful.
Artist Bio: Natalie Hoopes is an illustrator who works mostly in gouache and colored pencil. She lives in the desert with her family and a dog named Shadow. She's basically a really tired mom who is also a part time witch.
