Artist Statement: One of my favorite sculptures of all time is "The Rape of Proserpina" or "The Abduction of Persephone" by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Seeing it in person has always been a dream of mine. This last summer I got to live that dream. Bernini was a master of his craft and as I viewed his sculpture I was filled with love and tears thinking of the great justice he gave to the story of Persephone. I decided to highlight her in a more adoring light as a godly figure. This painting makes a note to all women and how holy we are. I believe that we need more adoration of women's bodies especially in today's day and age.
