Artist Statement: Orosi patterns can be found in Iran and are typically found in mosques and mausoleums. It is a six fold pattern that was constructed with a ruler and compass. All the glass pieces were hand cut and sanded by hand. It was soldered together using the copperfoiling method. The colors, as well as the mathematical truths through tesselations are meant to evoke a sense of peace and make one reflect on God’s Infinite Forgiveness and His Absolute Truth.
Artist Bio: An American-Muslim, Shabnam Siddiqui is an interdisciplinary artist known for her use of Islamic geometric designs in calligraphy, string art, watercolor paintings, and stained glass. She focuses on traditional methods using a ruler and compass for design construction and hand cuts her stained glass. Shabnam received her undergraduate degree in Biophysics, and worked as a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Her love for the mathematical beauty in nature, space, and historical architecture led her to further pursue geometric art. She has been a student of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, and Art of Islamic Pattern in London, Deen Arts Foundation in Dallas, and the Zakhrafa School of Traditional Arts in Istanbul. Shabnam is a wife and mother of 3 children and lives in Utah with her family.
