Artist Statement: Inspired by the Swedish forest near my house where my friends and I would pick blueberries to make pie. This piece is about growth. Among the Lilies of the Valley and the blueberries grows the Hepatica (Blåsippa) which is a protected flower in Sweden that you're not allowed to pick. Just like we're trying to protect endangered species of wildlife, we must protect our own growth and let ourselves blossom. This should be our goal as we start this new year and for all years to come.
Artist Bio: Olivia Öquist, originally from Sweden and now based in the U.S., has been creating art since she was a kid, growing up in a family full of artists and creatives. She spends most of her days painting. Her work is inspired by everything from classical art, her home, and fairytales, to emotions, femininity, and the beauty she sees in the world. Her paintings are dreamy, ethereal and sometimes moody. Her art brings softness to life’s tougher edges.
