Artist Bio: Ann is originally from Ireland and now living in Utah.
Working with an encaustic medium was a long-time ambition. I had the opportunity to take some time out to learn and fully engage with the medium in 2022. I fell in love with this very old medium which is being revived. I joined the International Encaustic Society and fully immersed myself in learning and creating.
My works are colourful abstract pieces, where I choose colour instinctively and move the melted wax around the substrate until the work is revealed. When I begin a piece, I have no attachment to the outcome. This process serves me well. My thoughts, moods and feelings are expressed in my creations. Being out in nature is my inspiration. Colour combinations and textures often overlooked by the busyness of everyday life fulfill me. It is the small details and moments that draw me in and inspire me to explore colour textures that are naturally created with the encaustic process.
As my works are abstract I like the viewer to see what they see and make their own emotional connection. I regularly exhibit my artworks in galleries here in Utah and online. I have been awarded several online awards and most recently an Honorable Mention with the Eccles Art Center Petite Impressions competition.
