Artist Statement: Thinking on the theme of A New Page, I wanted to show someone coming through a great hardship to find potential rest or rejuvenation. I decided to show this concept through an individual climbing a stone staircase in a dark and dreary world to find an archway formed by two trees with a warm glow emanating from the other side. There is also a spirit reclined in one of the trees to welcome the traveler to their rest. I created the artwork using my favorite combination of mediums, watercolor, ink, and some gouache.
Artist Bio: McLean Paul is an illustrator and art teacher from Syracuse, Utah. Typically just going by McLean, because having a typical last name as a first name and a typical first name as a last name can be confusing. McLean is inspired by tales of fantasy, adventure, and nature. Each illustration tries to tell a story or at least inspire a story in the viewer.
