While they were there, we took a day trip to Orvieto and Civita Bagnoregio (both of which we highly recommend if you are ever in the area). On our return trip home, we decided to drive through the Italian countryside instead of taking the Autostrada. That was certainly a good decision! Just outside of Rome, we passed through field after field carpeted with poppies in full bloom. I don't know if they are like this every spring or if they were particularly spectacular this year. I'm not sure if I did them justice with this print, but I think I captured the feeling of that amazing site. I'm glad to have a reminder of that special day. It's almost impossible to feel sad while looking at it (unless you're sad to not be there in person)!
