About the artwork: This is the image I conjured to embody strong motherhood, the glory of which can feel far away in my day-to-day tasks. The crown of flowers represents her power and love. I specifically chose to portray roses with their beauty amidst the thorns. The butterflies bring to the mind change and becoming more than we once were. So, when I feel the heavy tiredness that raising small children can bring, I remember that sore muscles come before strong ones, crawling around and eating comes before flying, and there is beauty in thorny roses.
About the artist: Lovetta Reyes-Cairo graduated from Brigham Young University and also studied at an independent art school, Beaux-Arts Academy. For Lovetta, art heals and allows for exploration and expression of feelings as few other things can. Her work is both personal and universal, often featuring the human figure and exploring ideas of motherhood, spirituality, healing, beauty, and love.
