Artist Statement: Nearly every culture across the globe has symbols that represent love. In both Buddhism and Hinduism (and in countries where those religions are prominent) a red lotus symbolizes passion and love. In Ancient Greece, the apple was a symbol for the same and was associated with Aphrodite. In some forms of Christianity, the apple is a symbol of passion and lust because it is associated with Eve and the forbidden fruit. Together, in this painting, they symbolize romantic love. For me, they also symbolize love across borders, boundaries and cultures.
