Artist Statement: Several years ago, my husband and I were struggling to have children. It was an incredibly discouraging time– even faith-shaking. I had been taught that the greatest measure of a woman’s creation lay in motherhood. Yet despite tremendous prayer, fasting, research & effort, I despaired of achieving that divine purpose. What was I to become, if not a mother?
What I came to realize is that each woman is a garden of possibility! Our Heavenly Parents desire development of the whole soul— or for a woman to grow many things in her garden, in addition to raising a family. And God truly does promise abundance!
By a woman’s divine heritage, and with access to divine nourishment, she gives life to all that she waters. Her talents go forth to bless the whole world— sowing goodness, pouring relief, planting friendships, nurturing souls, deepening faith, and raising up Zion.
Symbolism of included plants:
Peonies for fidelity and prosperity. Roses for beauty, love, and gratitude. Irises for faith. Lavender for devotion, grace and serenity. Magnolias for femininity and nobleness. Eucalyptus for strength and abundance. Sage for wisdom, virtue, health, and purification. Sweet pea and chrysanthemum for kindness. Lily of the Valley for a return to happiness. Tulips for enduring love. And young sycamores to connect heaven and earth.
