Artist Statement: For Persephone, I found a beautiful, albino African American model. I love the idea of Persephone descending to the underworld, the color leaching from her, as the world she leaves behind turns white with winter. This painting explores choice itself as a form of resistance when freedom has been taken from you, with all of the consequences that follow.
