Artist Statement: In this collection of mini paintings, I delve into the nuance and intimacy of the figures that fascinate me. These works serve as distilled moments of reflection, capturing the essence of the human experience on a small scale. Each miniature painting not only stands as a unique study but also lays the groundwork for larger future pieces. Through these studies, I can rapidly explore and resolve compositional and emotional challenges, distilling the subject to its essentials and omitting any unnecessary detail. This collection invites viewers to engage with the core of my artistic process, offering a glimpse into the meticulous journey from initial concept to final creation.
Artist Biography: Emerging Utah artist Alex Merrill (b. 1994) has been creating art her whole life, with an emphasis in oil painting since 2022. After taking a break from art for a few years, she found that creation is not only beneficial, but essential.
