About the Artist: I grew up in an industrial neighborhood in Pittsburgh, where my family had a rambling garden between our house and the railroad next to it. The urban environment led to an interest in policy and a career as an economics professor. My childhood love of dirt lay dormant until falling into ceramics in mid-life. I use art to meditate on the human body, and our physical or emotional experiences of transition and change as members of the larger natural world. I live in Montana, but my heart is still in the Utah desert I came to love as a young adult.
