Artist Statement: Everyday Relics Series
This series of eight miniature still life paintings explores themes of memory, ritual, and reverence through a restrained palette of pink, brown, and grey. Each piece—no larger than a business card—is rendered in oil on wood, with hand-applied gold leaf gilding the back and sides, elevating these intimate works into quiet icons. Subjects include pomegranates, lilies, a deer skull, pink roses, a teacup and saucer, a basket, and a conch shell—each chosen for its symbolic resonance and its capacity to hold emotional weight in the smallest of spaces. These objects echo vanitas traditions, yet are softened through a romantic, almost devotional lens.
These paintings invite close observation and personal contemplation, blurring the line between precious object and painterly offering. Together, they form a cohesive collection—relics of stillness and sentiment, meant to be held, treasured, and remembered.
