Artist: Leslie Espino
Medium: Gouache and repurposed paper, plastic and fiber
Titles: “present”, “warm”, “aglow”, “hug”, “sunlit”, “alive”, “a good small”
About the Artwork: While doing conservation work in the wilderness of the Tongass National Forest (Alaska), I witnessed 10pm sunsets that made everything glow with life. This collection is inspired by that glow and these small moments that make you feel present in a big way.
About the Artist: Leslie Espino is a female environmental scientist working at NASA. She creates sustainable art because it is the open space where she is free from both external and internal expectations. As a woman working in the male-dominated disciplines of STEM and art, Leslie uses her work to explore safe spaces. Using new and repurposed fiber and paper, she recreates the world as a safe space for all. She hopes her art invites the viewer to reconnect with their imagination and discover their power as a steward of their environment.
