Artist: Marein Konijn
Artist Bio: My first experience with art was with my parents. Since I was a little child, every year my parents took me, my sister, and my brother to France for camping trips. We usually had a schedule: a day of rest at the camp side alternated with a day on the road to explore the surroundings, scenery, villages and towns. My parents loved to go to old churches. I remember going into them, it was always cold. Candles lit the old gravestones we walked on and the walls were filled with paintings of the holy disciples or Christian narrative. My parents are Protestants, our church was empty as well as our cross. Here, in France, the churches were filled with paintings, sculptures, and crosses where Jesus was dying. It was impressive.
As a child I loved to draw. Most of the time I was copying pictures and drawings by others. It wasn't until I was 16 years old that I discovered that I could express myself in drawings. At that time I broke up with my boyfriend. It was very painful and I felt so bad. I made multiple drawing of myself. It felt liberating to put these feeling on a paper and taking them out of my head. I guess that was the point when the urge that I still feel began, the urge to create and transforming a blank sheet into something.

Dimensions: 3 x 2 inches

Title: A Sense of Wonder (0521)
Medium: Oil on wood
Dimensions: 3 x 2 inches
Price: $80
Artist Statement: Skies and reflections intrigue me. Sometimes reflections in the landscape seem like a mirror, but often, upon closer inspection, they don't correspond to what's being reflected. Currents and wind create ripples. This also applies to our thinking. We're so often convinced that what's going on in our minds is reality. But our thoughts are also influenced by currents and wind. This painting originated with this idea.

Title: Contrast (0522)
Medium: Oil on wood
Dimensions: 3 x 2 inches
Price: $80
Artist Statement: While I was boating on the water a while ago, I saw a beautiful scene: The sun was setting. The forest in the foreground was dark, while the forest in the background was illuminated. It reminded me of the idea that sometimes it seems so dark up close, but that after the dark period, there comes light.

Title: Morning Walk (0526)
Medium: Oil on wood
Dimensions: 3 x 2 inches
Price: $80
Artist Statement: What fascinates me about roads is the twists and turns you encounter. Sometimes the path you're walking is only visible for a short distance; you never know how it will continue. This also applies to the path of life. I tried to capture that idea with this painting.

Title: Whispers of the Sun (0527)
Medium: Oil on wood
Dimensions: 3 x 2 inches
