Artist Statement: My “Northern American Alpine Flowers” series was inspired by six weeks of hiking through the Canadian and American Rocky Mountains, where I photographed alpine wildflowers growing in their natural habitats. Each painting is based on a composition inspired by those moments on the trail. Some feature rare flowers found only in specific mountain climates, while others celebrate species that are more familiar and widespread. I wanted each flower to retain the glow of its aura as I experienced it in the mountains. Using transparent iridescent paint, I created a subtle halo inspired by the way sunlight illuminated each bloom. These paintings invite viewers to slow down and appreciate the beauty, resilience, and fleeting moments of light found in North America's alpine landscapes.
Artist Bio: Tiffany Zen is a Kansas City-based artist whose paintings explore the connection between people, animals, and the places they call home. Inspired by her travels and background in architecture, she creates works in watercolor, gouache, and oil that celebrate nature, wildlife, and the built environment. She incorporates metallic and iridescent paints to create surfaces that shift with changing light, inviting viewers to move through the space and experience each painting from a new perspective. Through her work, Tiffany encourages a deeper appreciation for the beauty and wonder found in both the natural and built worlds.
