Artist Statement: This little painting is of the mountains near where I live—places that have become special to me. Even after stepping away from the religion I grew up with, I’ve still felt a deep sense of peace and sacredness in these landscapes. The mountains are where I go to feel grounded, safe, and connected to something bigger than myself. This piece is my way of honoring that quiet kind of spirituality that still lives in my life.

Artist Bio: Raised in Manhattan, Kansas, and born in Provo, Utah, Ashley’s upbringing has shaped the way she explore themes of gender, identity, and spirituality. These subjects have become even more significant to her after a faith crisis led to her departure from Mormonism, a personal journey that has deeply influenced her art and the way she examines belief systems and selfhood. Art has given her an outlet to express herself and connect with others.

Ashley works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and installation. Central to her practice is the exploration of the intersection between physical and spiritual realms—particularly how belief systems shape personal and collective identity. Her artistic influences include Vincent Van Gogh, Emil Nolde, Kiki Smith, and Mary Cassatt.

Ultimately, her desire is to spark conversations about how we understand ourselves, our identities, and our beliefs. Ashley’s hope is that her work resonates on both a personal and universal level, providing viewers an opportunity to reflect on their own journeys. Whether through the quiet stillness of a landscape, curve of a figure, or the immersive atmosphere of an installation, Ashley aims to create art that fosters connection—both with one's inner experience and with others.
