Artist Bio: I was born and raised in Sandwich, Illinois, attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a B.S. in Architecture, and received a Masters in Architecture from the University of Utah. I am currently living in South Salt Lake, working as an architect, the mother of three young children, and recently became a practicing artist. Bouncing back and forth from different scales of projects, ranging from community planning down to brushstrokes, allows me to understand the world in varying places. There’s something about the back and forth that allows a glimpse into the big picture of connection while also reveling in the beauty of detail.
My work is often created alongside my children, from whom I find inspiration in their own freeing artistry and the experience of discovering life together. I create art that longs to invite imagination and spiritual reflection as I abstractly address ideas of nature, the built environment, and the communities of individuals that inhabit both. I use opaque and transparent methods to create the essence of light and water, shadow and discovery. Pure materials and elements found in nature will often be brought into or alongside my canvases to humble me with their creation. I plead to translate even a bit of their wonder and whimsy into my work. I hope to forever inhabit the naivety and passion of a student, and try always to explore and play while creating. I also wish to teach my findings, or share the knowledge I’ve been presented with about architecture and the built and natural spaces we are allowed to care for.
