Artist Statement: I find myself wishing to be great at all the creative roles I have chosen to bear, only to feel disappointed in the imperfect efforts I am able to give each endeavor I pursue. I want to mother well, keep my home beautiful and tidy, cook like a chef, make great art, minister with charity, teach articulately and with inspiration, parent with patience, be a present and devoted spouse…and what I find is that my busy days are filled with constant interruptions, and only fragments of time to focus on all the things I care about. I can get discouraged and judge my efforts as inadequate in almost every area of my life, if I look at each endeavor individually. However, an outsider, with more compassion than I have for myself, might see the many ways I exhaust myself in hopes of making the world a better and more beautiful place–and looking at the bigger picture, they might view my efforts not as imperfect fragments alone, but as a beautiful tapestry of small, but good deeds that have facilitated many meaningful connections between souls.
