Untitled 1
In my early 20’s I spent some time as a raft guide. I spent more time sitting on a riverbank the the average person would in a life time. I painted this while sitting in the sand looking up at the canyon walls that hugged the river. The sage brush in full yellow blooms and a hazy from the surrounding wildflowers. This seemed to be the kind of moment I’d forget about in a year time, but I wanted to keep it and hold it forever
Untitled 2
This is a watercolor I did of the Sawtooths mountain range located in idaho. These are the type of mountains that when you’re driving by you can’t keep your eyes off them. I wanted to really focus on the light feeling summer brings to these mountains. The crisp breeze that happens in the heat of July when you stand in front gazing at them.
Untitled 3
In this painting I really wanted to focus on layers. I always find the more I look at a landscape the more depth I see, breaks of greens and blues, different textures and tones.
Untitled 4
As a child I remember driving past the Sawtooths when my parent stopped the car. I remember running up to the split-rail fence that frames the view. I climbed up them, sat down looking at them and it felt like the world around had paused. Those fences always bring so many memories of the early years of my life
Untitled 5 (acrylic)
Growing up my favorite color was always green, it filled my soul. When I was 12 I moved away from the mountain town I was raised in to a city. After that move my favorite color started to change. I remember months after moving going on a drive back to the mountains. I kept my windows rolled down the whole time like I was trying to drink the fresh mountain air. The lush rolling hills and tall pine trees surrounded the mountain peaks reminded me why my favorite color was always green.
Untitled 6
When I was a kid my mom got into a car accident resulting in a bad neck injury. I painted this for her. She taught me strength when she was at her weakest, and I couldn’t think of anything more beautiful than that.
Untitled 7
I had painted a vertebra with flowers and wanted to expand on the idea of it. I was fascinated on how so many little bones connected in what seems to be such a fragile way can protect something so important.
Untitled 8
For my artist career I had solely focused on landscapes and other feature of nature. I wanted to expand my comfort level and work on new things, so I joined a gesture drawing class. For months I focused on bodies and their movements. This class was so beneficial to me not only as an artist but as a woman. I grew so much love for the beauty a pelvis carries.
Untitled 9
I painted this landscape with watercolor, it always amazes me to build the texture and contrast. Starting a painting from the highlights on peaks and working in deep contrasting colors.
Untitled 10
The headwaters of the Salmon River are located in the sawtooth mountains. That’s where the life cycle of salmon fish are. There they are hatched and spend the next portion of their life traveling all the way to the ocean. Then then try to return back to the Sawtooth Mountains to lay eggs of their own. The more I learn about these mountains the more I want to celebrate them.
