Artist Bio: Crystal Gonzalez Callison is a Utah-based, Texas-native, Mexican-American interdisciplinary artist and mother of six, including children with disabilities. She began creating art in her mid-30s as a way to process her experiences, particularly grief and loss, following her father’s passing. Much of her work is inspired by her search to connect with her Mexican-American roots and to understand what has been preserved or lost across generations. Through painting, video, sculpture, and installation, she uses bold color, layers, textures, and personal objects to explore presence and absence, memory, and identity. As a mother of biracial children, she seeks to reclaim and pass down cultural heritage, transforming personal and familial history into tangible forms that hold stories, emotions, and connections.
