Artist Statement: Ashes #1, Ashes #2, and Ashes #3 are a series of pieces focusing on new beginnings. On three pieces of 8 ½ x 11 inch white paper, the artist wrote a letter to her past self. Each piece has the physical ashes of that page of the letter ingrained into the canvas. Rising from the ashes of the past year,
Ashes #1, Ashes #2, and Ashes #3 speak of releasing the past, embracing the future, and beginning again.
Artist Bio: Devyn Roberts is an artist born in Utah and raised near Portland, Oregon. She currently works and lives in Provo, UT and will graduate from Brigham Young University with her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and has spent time in São Paulo, Brazil. Her work centers around the emotional experiences one can have in a new space along with being inspired by the architecture and flora that surrounds her life. She translates these emotions and experiences through paintings, screen prints, and installation works. These pieces are forms of communication between lived memories and the 2D artmaking process.
