Artist Statement: I have been paralyzed for 26 years. Little by little, I found that I didn’t connect to portraiture of the human form. Only feeling half my body, I connect more to a botanical illustration as a portrait of my experience; cut off from the roots, propped up by science, but still vibrant and expressive.
Artist Bio: Emily McQueen is a painter living in Glenwood, Iowa. She graduated from BYU-Idaho in 2004 and continues to make art as she raises her family, teaches classes, and exhibits around the country. Her work combines oil painting and block printing in order to connect themes found within nature to her experiences as a disabled woman.
