Artist Statement: This painting was inspired by a tender moment shared at my great-aunt Cherrie’s funeral earlier this year. During the service, my great-aunt Jo recalled a simple yet beautiful memory of their childhood in rural Altamont, Utah, making dandelion necklaces and hollyhock dolls with her sisters. That was the image. In that instant, I knew I needed to paint it. The scene represents more than a childhood pastime. It reflects a deeper truth about connection and creativity. Six sisters, gathered together, creating something from almost nothing. This work is a tribute to the women in my life and to the legacy of creativity they carry. Their ability to nurture, invent, and uplift one another continues to shape the world in meaningful ways.
