Artist Statement: I once saw a video of an osprey submerged in the ocean…she was beating her wings with such determined exaltant defiant force one-more-time… just one-more-time… that finally she beat her way out of the cold consuming hold of the ocean–triumphantly bearing a barracuda in her claws.
This winged woman honors that moment.
The moment when she reaches heaven in the pinnacle of her despair, determined to beat her wings down just one more time to achieve LIFT of everyone and everything that needs to rise…carrying whatever triumph she might find. DO NOT GIVE UP.
Some things I thought of with this piece…
Breasts become wings…Intentionally done as it makes sense to me that my divine feminine generates oomph for my own work of fighting out of oceans.
There’s some violence to the top of the wings… trying to channel energy from on high is no small wrestle.
The defiant tilt of the head… chin up.
The belly button, I just like it.
And inadvertently (didn’t notice until it was finished), the spine to wings that looks like a wishbone. This stone carries a whole lotta lotta wishing.
